Sodium Bicarbonate - Baking Soda - Acid/Alkaline balance

Chris Shirley says:

After successfully recovering from surgery - removal of half of my bowel and the tumor that it contained - I was confused. My diet was vegetarian and pretty healthy and I exercised regularly at the gym, my lifestyle was pretty healthy - how could I get cancer?
Well, as I wrestled with this question I realized that one part of my diet that I was not conscious of was the acid-alkaline balance. Surprise, surprise - many foods that I was eating were acidic!!! And, all disease including cancer will thrive in an acidic environment. So, I plunged myself into learning about acidic and alkaline foods. It seemed rather complicated - and, not all websites agreed on which foods were alkaline and which are acidic.
However, it did become clear that what was important was to have some kind of balance between the two with alkaline foods predominant (60%). To cut a long story short, my naturopathic doctor recommended to me that if I took a quarter to a half teaspoonful of baking soda dissolved in healthy water/juice - that would keep the acid-alkaline balance of my diet good.
Well, I am a guy who likes to keep things simple - so, this works for me. To boot, I am aware of some very alkaline foods: citrus fruits, raisins, almonds, garlic, coconut, celery, carrots, etc.and I am more inclined to embrace them. If you want to explore the acidity/alkalinity of different foods this link will take you to a good place to start:
Well, keeping your diet with a healthy acid-alkaline balnce has it's merits, but, as a wise doctor pointed out to me "negative" emotions are the primary source of acidity in the body!
Do you have any thoughts on this topic to share? I am interested to hear them.
